The "smooth sided" look was accomplished by filling in the door channels with plastic body filler (Bondo), which is the choice of body professionals in smoothing imperfections, NOT constructing entire body panels out of it! Whatever the case, the Bondo has got to go! We first ground out the Bondo inside the door, at the molding mount holes, then used a screwdriver to chip it out of the molding channel. Thank God the previous bodyman didn’t properly prep the surface (the Bondo didn’t stick too well), and the filler popped out.

At least it did on the driver’s side. The passenger side needed to be ground out completely. Bondo dust everywhere! The end result is on the next page ...
