After pulling the valve covers, we discovered Jethro (or was it Billy-Bob?) the mechanic had put NON self-aligning rocker arms on the factory rocker studs. L98 engines come from the factory with self-aligning rocker arms, so it’s highly likely that "Bubba" (the name we’ll use from here on out) just used whatever he had laying around. Definitely NOT what a Corvette deserves! No high-performance engine deserves this.
This problem was quickly rectified with a set of our Scorpion 1.6 ratio self-aligning aluminum roller rockers. We use these on every hot small-block we build or modify and they’re a high-quality product that are quite reasonably priced.
The Scorpions don’t fit under the stock L98 covers without some reworking, however. Rather than spend a lot of time reworking and refurbishing the existing valve covers, we killed two birds with one stone by using some of our stamped steel chrome replacement valve covers.
Next to address: the stupid (and ugly) "El Cheapo" ignition wires.
